In January 2005, Togliatti State University Development Programme for 2005-2008 was launched. The Institute for the Humanities and Pedagogy was established this year.

Regional and national contests in the humanities and technical disciplines were held at Togliatti State University in 2005. TSU students were among the prize winners. E. Borisova, a student of the “Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation” programme, took the first prize; another group of TSU students were third in the Automotive and Tractor Engineering Contest, and the fourth in the Descriptive Geometry and Computer Graphics Contest.

Togliatti State University students actively participated in national and international competitions. Student G. Borodulya took the first place in the XI International Tournament “Computer Physics”, I. Lavrentyeva became a laureate of “Zhiguli Palette - 2005”.

The Sharonovs’ Jewelry Design School became the winner in the competition for young designers “M*ARS”, and its student S. Matrosova was awarded the first prize. The work of Diana Sharonova received a cup at Malta International Art Biennale.

In August, Togliatti State University became the winner of “Development and Testing of Modern Technologies for Education Organisation in Innovative Education Institutions of Higher Professional Education” competition held by the Federal Agency for Education.

During the year, six new education programmes were licensed, and six Ph.D. theses were defended.
