The contest Landscape in graphics is a piece of the project Blagodatnoe leto. Zhiguli – 2022 (Russian for Beautiful summer. Zhiguli – 2022), which received support from the Fund of presidential grants. Its organizers are the Volga Academy of St. Alexis, the Orthodox Classical Gymnasium, and the College for the Humanities. The theme of this year - Volga-matushka - was to create creative graphic works, glorifying the beauty of the Russian river, urban and rural settlements along its stream.
The competition was attended by young artists from all over the country: Togliatti, Samara, Ulyanovsk, Astrakhan, Yaroslavl, Tver, Saratov, Ryazan and other. More than 225 works were submitted for the contest. The jury included the members of the Artists Trade Union of Russia, practicing artists and lecturers of the Department of Fine Arts of the St. Alexius Orthodox Institute of Volga region.
Ekaterina Pletnikova entered the second age group of the Landscape in Graphics competition, representing the second age group of 16-23 year old students who were competing in the creative areas of universities and colleges. Ekaterina is studying at TSU in the Department of Environmental Design, but decided to take part in the graphics competition for new experience and professional development. She painted a landscape Part of the hometown intentionally for the competition.
According to the rules of the competition the landscape could depict anything, the main idea is that it reflects the views of our region. You could choose any style for your painting. In my work I presented The Sports center Volgar. The building itself seemed very textured to me. I thought it would be fun to create and stylize this landscape, - says Ekaterina Pletnikova. – The participation was the main goal for me, but it is nice that the jury highly appreciated my graphics, although a lot of strong and talented works participated in the competition. I got an interesting experience and enjoyment from the process.
On The Exhibition Landscape in Graphics - 22, you can see the landscape A Part of the Home Town by Ekaterina Pletnikova, and also the paintings by several other TSU students who participated in the competition. The exhibition is located in the atrium of the St. Alexius Orthodox Institute of Volga region at 4a Yubileynaya Street.
